First Friday Tasting – August Feature: Shakerato Crème Brûlée
For our August First Friday Tasting, we're featuring a refreshing summer espresso drink: the Shakerato.
You can use any espresso machine to make this recipe, but we'll be demonstrating it with the Breville Barista Touch Impress. It's one of the most beginner-friendly espresso machines available and comes in several beautiful finishes and accent kits if aesthetics are important to you. Breville also offers the Shake & Take accessory, making it the perfect companion for this month's featured drink.

- Milk (optional)
- Espresso

How to Make a Shakerato
- Fill the Breville Shake & Take with 3 ice cubes.
- Brew a fresh shot of espresso directly into the shaker.
- Add 2 pumps (20 mL) of your favourite syrup, or 3 pumps if you prefer a sweeter drink. We'll be using 1883 Crème Brûlée syrup.
- Secure the lid and shake vigorously. The longer you shake, the creamier and foamier the drink becomes, as the sugar helps create a rich foam.
- Pour the contents into a 10 oz cup, or enjoy it straight from the Shake & Take, which also doubles as a convenient to-go cup.
- If using a plastic cup, there should be enough room to top the drink with milk. Alternatively, pour the milk directly into the Shake & Take before enjoyin
Enjoy it as-is for a bold, refreshing coffee, or top it with cold milk for a smoother, creamier version. Perfect for summer, this easy cold coffee drink can also be customized with your favourite flavoured syrups. All you need is an espresso machine and a few simple ingredients to create a delicious way to cool off during the warmer months.
Happy shaking!
