Stewi
The name Stewi comes from Mr. Steiner in Winterthur, Switzerland. The brand is known nationwide for its main product: a hinged frame, on which to dry clothes. Until the fifties an inventor named Franz Grüter with a laundry hanging mechanism named Alpawind dominated the market. His model was pushed out of the market by the cheaper and easier-to-use alternative from Walter Steiner and his Stewi. The Winterthur business protected its linen screen with a patent. It has long expired, but still, Stewi is the leader of the Swiss laundry hanging scene. CEO Andreas Walter Steiner is the son of the founder and owner. He employs about 30 people.
