Single Serve Coffee Makers and Pods for Espresso Machines

Single serve coffee machines are growing in popularity. They offer one cup at a time brewing with no mess and no fuss. There are many systems available today and selecting one can be confusing. Note the difference between Coffee Capsule Systems (mainly for coffee), E.S.E. systems (for Espresso) and proprietary systems such as the Keurig, Tassimo, Nespresso and Caffitaly. Some are better suited for Espresso and others for Coffee.

We currently have these systems available:

Single Serve Coffee Maker and Espresso Machines

Nespresso D290 Chrome Automatic Espresso Machine (Canadian Version)

Francis Francis! X1 Espresso Machine - Black

Keurig single cup coffee makers give you the great taste of gourmet coffee.

Nespresso makes great espresso, lattes and cappuccinos as well as long coffee.

E.S.E. pods work on many models of semi-automatic espresso machines, some of which include pod adaptors along with pre-ground espresso portafilters.

The K-Cup system is exclusive to Keurig and to date the only Manufacturer:

Simple Single serve espresso machines from Caffitaly

Manufacturers that offer the E.S.E. (Easy Serving Espresso) include:

Single Serve Coffee and Espresso

K-Cups

Espresso Capsules

ESE Espresso Pods

K-Cup Colombian Dorado (Medium) Only K-Cups are compatible in the standard system but you can also get an attachment that allows you to use any pre-ground coffee or tea.

This is a proprietary system. Only Nespresso Capsules can be used.

Currently Nespresso cartridges are only available from:

Nespresso Club

However, there are Nespresso Compatible Capsules:

Individually Wrapped Easy Serving Espresso The E.S.E. has established itself as the industry standard for espresso pods.

One of the largest selections of coffee, tea and chocolate available from different roasters:

  • Tim Horton's
  • McCafe McDonalds
  • Second Cup
  • Starbucks
  • Timothy's World Coffee
  • Green Mountain
  • Van Houtte
  • Diedrich Coffee
  • Gloria Jeans

Caffitaly is one of the only ones featuring 8 gram capsules.

Almost every roaster today offers some of their blends in the E.S.E. format:

FrancisFrancis! has a new capsule system that will launch in Canada in spring of 2009 for their new X7 and X8 machines with their own proprietary capsules. This system is currently only available in the U.S.

When deciding which single serve coffee maker to choose consider that some systems use a proprietary system such as the Tassimo and others are more generic and compatible with other systems such as the E.S.E. Unlike espresso pods, there is no industry standard when it comes to single serve coffee capsules. Make sure to check compatibility between the coffee capsules and the single serve coffee maker.

The quality of the coffee depends on many factors. We recommend you read the large amount of reviews available on the internet.
