Synopsis: We got our hands on a pre-production unit of a new variable temperature kettle from Bonavita. We expected a gooseneck version, but got a nice surprise.

Bonavita Variable Temperature Kettle

Pre-Production Unit - Expected Availability in July

We are super excited about the new pre-production variable kettle we got from Bonavita! We expected to get the gooseneck version we have seen on other website reviews but we got another version altogether. This is the more classic kettle, capable of holding up to 1.75L of water with a larger shorter spout - perfect for teas and cafe use. While not as accurate as the gooseneck, it provides different benefits.

Pros
:  Larger spout makes pouring faster and easier
           Larger size, 1.75L
Short heat time at 5 Minutes for 1L of water
Able to "Hold" temperature for up to 20 minutes
Able to pre-set 6 separate temperatures
           Low cost
Water level visibility from outside unit

Cons
: Less accuracy when pouring such as the gooseneck version
Harder to use for pour-over stations and/or methods
           Small power cord

Espresso Planet Time Test with 1L of cool water

0 Mins @ 24°C
2 Mins @ 58°C
3 Mins @ 75°C
4 Mins @ 89°C
5 Mins @ 94°C  (Target Temperature)

First Impressions

Theresa: It looks like a regular kettle (not a bad thing) but with a “geeky” touch due to the electronic base. The buttons are big and easy to see.

Joshua: Higher build quality than original gooseneck version. I loved the water level indicator on the outside of the unit. Loved the “Hold” feature and the temperature control, stability and accuracy.

Karen: I liked the push button opening, as the manual top on the other versions could get a little hot. I liked the ergonomics of the handle a little better, it feels like a better grip.
