Choosing the Best Philips Saeco Series Machine for You

The Philips Saeco 2200 / 3200 / 4300 / 5400 Series of Superautomatic Espresso Machines are absolutely perfect for those who want lots of choice in their home coffee, while also being quick and easy to use. But choosing what's best for your home and needs can be a bit challenging as they all pretty much look the same! And this is actually where the brilliance of the line comes in: Saeco has essentially made 6 variations of the same machine to make sure everyone can find EXACTLY the machine they are looking for.

When picking an Superautomatic espresso machine, here are a few things you will want to consider:

  • How many people will be using the machine? If its just 1 or 2 people, then you can fine tune your selection for those needs and often lots of options are not necessary. If you have a full house, presets and loads of options are usually a must, as everyone has their own preferences.

  • How much automation do you want vs. control over the extraction process? Automation brings ease of use and quickness, where as a more manual features, like a frothing wand, are more time consuming but allow you to better control the process.

  • Do you want a 1-Touch or 2-Touch system? A 1-Touch system means you simply push 1 button and you get you drink made fully, including both espresso and milk. A 2-Touch system means you are frothing milk separately in a frothing pitcher and then combining it manually with the automatically extracted espresso.

  • How many types of specialty coffee drinks do you enjoy regularly? Figuring out what your steady go-to drinks are helps you figure out if you need a machine that makes 8 drinks automatically (the 4300 LatteGo) or if you only need 4 drinks automatic and the option for more with a steam wand (3200 Classic Steam Wand).

  • Do you drink milk based drinks regularly? If you mostly enjoy espresso, americanos or coffee, an automatic frother may not be necessary for you. If you are a big latte or cappuccino fan, automatic milk frothing will be much more helpful for a quick drink.

Each machine in this series has 1 of 2 frothing types, either LatteGo Automatic frother or a Classic Milk Frother.

The Classic Milk Frother allows for automatic milk steaming using a steaming wand, so you can enjoy your favourite milk based espresso drinks, like Lattes and Cappuccinos. This would make the machine a 2 touch machine, where you extract your espresso and then froth your milk in a frothing pitcher, and finally combine to make your drink. Gives you more of the barista feeling and more control over your milk texture and temperature.

The LatteGo Autofrother allows you to enjoy perfectly prepared milk based drinks in 1 touch, while being easy to use and clean. No need to manually froth milk, extraction and frothing is all done with the touch of 1 button!

With this all in mind, we created this handy chart to help you decide which machine best suits your needs.
