Unfortunately, this just isn't working for me.

I've owned this coffee maker for a year now, and have had numerous issues. I really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, if you try to brew a full pot at a decent strength, it WILL overflow. If you try to brew a half pot (which the machine cannot manage), you'll have dry grounds left in the basket.

I've been in contact with tech support over the past few months or so, trying to sort out these issues. I've changed the water temperature, the coffee grind, the water, the level of the brewer on the counter, the amount of coffee I brew, and even started using the permanent filter (which I really don't like). I've done everything I can think of. My beans are locally roasted and delivered fresh within days. I've increased the amount of degassing time. Nothing works.

Tech support even sent me a new carafe, thinking that the carafe was too short.

Nothing is helping.

First, I hate having to brew a full pot of coffee. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house, and it's wasteful. This isn't advertised anywhere. You can't make half pots. (Seriously, who designs these things?)

Second, it takes way more coffee to make a good pot than other coffee makers. For some reason, the coffee is water unless I use at least double the coffee. That's way more than I should have to use (though tech support mentioned that using more than 1.5 tbsp per cup is too much for the coffee maker to manage, so there's no win!).

Third, paper filters are right out of the question, because they're not big enough (even the largest size) to support all the coffee. Then I have to use the permanent filter, which is annoying to clean, still doesn't handle the volume, and leaves sludge.

Fourth, I really don't like that the parts are not dishwasher (or even hand washing!!) safe. Seriously, none of the parts can be washed! Or even rinsed! They trap water and won't drain properly. Eeewww. The lid on the thermal carafe has water sloshing around inside it, and it won't drain, because I once accidentally rinsed it under a very light stream of water. This is a major flaw, and happened with both carafes.

Fifth, it won't stop overflowing!! I get grounds and coffee all over everything!!

Sixth, there's a really loud beep when you turn it on, and another three beeps to alert to the cycle ending. This is only annoying in the context of every other issue I have. As well, just recently, the brewer now continues to drip into the carafe after the end of the cycle, probably because the darn thing has overflowed again and there's residual water in the tank.

Seventh, and this is a beef I have with all thermal pots in general, the stainless steel liner makes coffee bitter. There is no getting around it. Stainless steel wrecks the taste of coffee. So even if it DID keep the coffee hot, which this one doesn't, it would taste too awful to drink after more than a few minutes post-brew. If I could brew small pots, it wouldn't be an issue, but, oh right, this machine can't do that.

Truly, a coffee maker, especially one this expensive and supposedly top of the line, should not take this amount of work.

I love that it's adjustable, but even that becomes an annoyance when you just want a coffee maker that works and makes good coffee. It shouldn't be too much to ask, but this just doesn't deliver. I'm really disappointed. I bought it over the Bonavita because it had good reviews, and with the perfect temperature controls, I expected perfect coffee. I did NOT expect such waste. I've spent more on coffee in the past year than I have in my life.

Bottom line is, I'm in the market for something else. Now it's a toss up between the Zojirushi with the glass carafe, or the Bonavita 5 cup, whichever comes on sale sooner.

P.S. I've given this unit two stars. The second star is because Behmor tech support is pretty good. They tried. They failed, but only because the machine is so poorly designed.

This is an amazing coffee maker. It has most of the features I've been looking for for a long time. I've already bought the Bonavita from Espresso Planet among other things over the past few years. I also have the Bunn my cafe for personal size cups up to 16 ounces. All these machines are brewed extra hot. What is special about the Behmor Brazen is the stainless steel tank on top in which the water is boiled in before brewing the grinds. The manual adjusting of water temperature from 190 to 210 degrees F. Is amazing. Add to that the infusion time and altitude adjustment also make a huge difference for those coffee snobs with finer taste buds. Even though the holes at the top of the carafe let heat out after brewing allowing the coffee to cool off faster it is still a worthy product so far(I just bought it). I figure putting a thermos top over top of it will help to keep the heat from escaping thus prolonging the heat in the carafe longer. The extra large spray head seems to saturate the grinds well. I was at first skeptical since I have mostly cone shaped filters in the past with fairly good success. This being a flat bottom filter surprised me at the positive end result.Looking at past reviews I could see that there were a lot of problems including the spillage from the carafe itself. Thankfully these things were corrected by the company. The only other thing I would have liked to see is that the lid above the reservoir would have been stainless steel as well. But so far it hasn't interfered with the great quality of coffee that this machine produces.
Lastly I commend the staff at Espresso Planet for making my purchase a most enjoyable learning adventure, with their professional and caring support.
I highly recommend both this coffee maker and the place in which I purchased it.

Sorry my mouse screwed up I meant to give this a 5 star rating. Right out of the box it has made the best cup of coffee ever! Easy to use and seems like it will be easy to clean. I would recommend this to anyone that loves their coffee!
