The Brazen Plus brew system has features not found on any other consumer coffee maker. Settings are adjustable for water brewing temperature and pre-soak like found on many commercial brewers. Set your brewing temperature between 190F and 210F with accuracy to within 1 degree. A patent-pending feature allows temperature calibration with altitude correction. The oversized shower head and pulsed water flow ensure complete coffee bed saturation for terrific coffee extraction. 1 year warranty. Permanent filter included or use paper filters. Thermal carafe (SCA approved) with brew through lid keeps coffee hot. The Brazen Plus 3.0 is one of the very few that is Home Brewer certified by the Specialty Coffee Association to their newest standards.
The latest Brazen Plus 3.0 version has new programming for better extraction and with revised Pulse Water Release Timing. At $179.99 the Brazen remains an excellent value for a brewer with this much performance. Beyond new programming and revisions to how brew water pulses, other changes are under the hood and of a technical nature. This model replaces and builds upon the Brazen Plus 2.0, which had already incorporated several important changes since the Brazen Brew System was first introduced. In addition to all of the features you can read about below, these improvements included:
New Features:
The Brazen Coffee Brewer was already a truly innovative product appealing to that customers who desires a customizable cup of coffee. For home coffee lovers (and who isn't) who would like to have a lot of control, with the option of fine tuning only if and when you want it, the Brazen delivers a feature set not seen before. Notably, the Brazen allows you to set your brewing temperature and adds a pre-soak cycle, mimicking some of the most desirable features of high end, professional coffee brewing equipment. Bottom line: the Brazen brewed a terrific pot of coffee and now, the Brazen Plus takes that concept even further.
Variable Temperature Controls - Set the Brazen to brew between 190 and 210 degrees Fahrenheit in 1 degree increments. This is ground breaking and we know of no other home coffee brewer that offers this ability. This puts you in control of the brewing temperature and you may discover that a particular temperature produces the flavor profile you like best, for a particular coffee. As the heating water comes within a few degrees of its target temperature, it will slowly glide to it so as not to overshoot, then begin brewing (Power Controlled Temperature Glide).
Ideal Coffee Extraction - Coffee grounds are fully saturated due to an oversized spray head and improved pulsing of the water flow.
Temperature Altitude Calibration - Another innovative feature. Water boils at 212 degrees fahrenheit (100 Celsius) but that is only true from sea level to a few hundred feet elevation. The higher the elevation the lower the boiling point. When you calibrate The Brazen its system sets a temperature limit based on altitude, otherwise false readings would occur. At 5000 feet water boils at 203 degrees - that is just a fact of physics - so, once calibrated, The Brazen will not accept a target temperature more than 201 (203 less 2 so the system cannot over shoot). In other words, calibration optimizes and corrects the system for altitude. Other coffee brewing systems cannot approach this level of accuracy. Note: for each 500 feet above sea level, water boils about at 0.9 degrees F less.
Pre-Soak Function with Time Setting - Adjustable from 15 seconds to 4 minutes in 1 second increments. When coffee is very fresh it contains naturally occurring gases that need to be released. The preferred way to brew drip coffee, whether done manually by the cup, or, in a high end larger commercial brewer, is to put a small amount of heated water on the ground coffee to saturate it. The fresh coffee "blooms" and this short period of time allows the gases to release. The fresher the coffee the longer the pre-soak required. Pre-soaking assures you of full saturation and will reduce the possibility that coffee will overflow a brew basket (if ground properly). In the Brazen 150ml of heated water is sprayed on to the coffee bed, which takes about 15 seconds. The rest of the pre-soak time setting is for degassing and saturation. The remaining brew cycle continues immediately following. We generally set pre-soak for 1 minute, but a little longer for coffee right out of the roaster (another Behmor product).
Gold filter included - A custom made, basket shaped gold filter with handle is included, which is a very unusual value added feature. The Brazen can also use basket shaped paper filters which are readily available. Do not use both at the same time.
Sleep mode - display saves power when now in use.
Auto Timer / Clock / Memory - You can program the Brazen to brew at a preset time, like when you wake up in the morning. All of the programming is saved to memory except for the clock itself.
Designed for use in 120v / 60hz environments ONLY
