FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Water contains minerals. Pending on the location, water may have different minerals and levels. This is also referred to water hardness. The minerals will deposit onto internal parts of the espresso machine or coffee maker such as water pumps, valves, boilers and any other part in contact with water. This is why it is important to descale espresso machines and coffee makers frequently...

We found a great source (unfortunately in German) on how to repair Jura coffee espresso makers....

  • My coffee is not tasting strong enough.
  • The machine indicates empty grinder even though beans are in the hopper.
It may be possible that the coffee beans were exposed to moisture causing the grinder burrs to clog up. Most common reason for moist beans is storing them in the refrigerator or freezer. Coffee beans will condensate when removed from cold storage areas. Please store coffee in a dry and airtight container away from heat sources.

Remove all the beans from the grinder. Let the grinder dry for a couple of days. Fill dry beans into the grinder. Try to use the coarsest setting on the grinder. Hopefully the grinder will recover.

  • How do I clean and maintain an Aluminum Stove Top Coffee Maker?
Cleaning an aluminum stove top is not the same as cleaning a stainless steel stove top.  Typically, you should not use any soap or abrasive cleaning products.  A good rinse with hot water and a scrub brush should do the job.  You must also ensure that all parts of an aluminum stove top are thoroughly dried.  If all the parts are not dried properly you will start to see light spotting.  Also, your coffee may start to taste like metal.  After a prolonged period of not drying the stove top properly, your stove top will start to corrode.  This is marked by very dark spots on the aluminum that cannot be scrubbed off.  Water has many minerals that will interact negatively with the aluminum.  Depending on the quality of water in your area, the spotting will vary in colour and severity.  You may want to try a high grade descaler at this point.  Mix the descaler with water and scrub with a wire or hard bristled brush.  Do not leave the descaler sitting in the pot for an extended period of time.

Also, after an extended period of time your rubber gaskets will start to break down.  This is marked by leakage.  We recommend replacing the gasket every 3-6 months (depending on usage).  You may also want to replace the filter plate if it is clogged and cleaning with a hard bristle brush does not unclog the filter plate.
