FAQ Clean Roast Diagnose

Roasting Guide

Back to Alpenrorst

Experienced roaster/operators can use the BRAVI to test smaller samples of green beans by doing a "manual roast."

This technique will allow the roaster to roast in smaller quantities (IE: 125gr. /4oz.) rather than the "recommended 225gr. /8oz. Quantities and to significantly shorten the roast time. In some cases this could be less than 10 minutes roast time before "cool" cycle is initiated.

Regardless of the quantity up to 225gr. /8oz., simply follow the instructions in the manual and supplemental warning sheet enclosed with each unit, except that the setting should be set to maximum #15 (20:05 sec.) and the roast must be constantly monitored and the "cool" button pressed when the roaster/operator determines the desired level of roast. Never unplug unit until "cool" cycle is complete.

Do not open lid while roasting or "cool" cycle is in progress. Wait until unit shuts down before opening lid and removing beans.

NOTE: Roast times shorten considerably with smaller quantities and certain types of beans.

This technique will require the roaster/operator to identify the "first crack " and " second crack" to gauge these roasts properly while also considering the smoke emission.

Important: Prior to each use:

  • Always be sure all removable parts are properly cleaned and placed on unit.
  • Always allow 30 minutes cooling time between roasts.
  • Always remove chaff from Drum, Chaff Tray, Vent and area where vent attaches to unit.
  • Always clean Roast Chamber, especially 2 half -moon doors at end of Chamber. Use damp cloth, sponge or nylon pad with mild detergent.

IMPORTANT: Read and follow all safety instructions in manual prior to each use and cleaning.
